Project Description

Project Brief

One of the challenges that faced Umkomaas Lodge reception was the ability to explain what the rooms looked like besides the few photos that were available online. The lodge has 17 rooms in total, varying from backpacker style rooms to plush 4-star sea-facing en-suite rooms. We took 56 panoramas and included the surrounding shops which fall under the Umkomaas Lodge eco-system. This unique place is a traveller and scuba divers paradise.

Skillsets & Planning Needed

First, we planned out the virtual tour route in such a way that people are able to navigate throughout the establishment and be able to get the feel for the place as if they are walking through each room and corridor. The idea is to pass this experience on to discovering visitors who have found Umkomaas Lodge for the first time.

The filming process is organised. We checklist points including, loo seats down, all taps facing a certain angle, all toiletries neatly arranged, windows clean, windows closed, mats lined up, all lights on, bedding and pillows arranged. Often we take flowers or extras to give it the feel of being used, with sandals placed prominently and a towel laid accordingly.

The stitching process take a couple of days to complete. We then have a working product, ready to be enbedded into your website.

Initial Concept Planning

Developing a plan for a place with many corridors and levels presented a few challenges and made us really think on which would work the best.

Drafts & Revisions

This being our first ever attempt at creating a commercial level panorama, we were faced with a few photographic challenges early on into the process. With a camera upgrade we were able to iron out image quality problems with HDR quality footage that looks great and is able to capture shadows and highlights simultaneously.

Key Performance Indicator

Since the implimentation of thier virtual tour we have been monitoring the user behaviour results, and what we have seen has made us realize how drastically user time onsite has increased.
